Flush Out the Rat

It’s time to go rat hunting! Well, not for real rats. We are about to enter the wacky world of David Walliams and play a children’s card game called Flush Out the Rat. A game that sees the losing player with a rat in their burger!

Flush Out the Rat is a matching pairs card game for 2 or more players, aged 7+. It has a playing time of around 10 minutes. This quick and fun card game features the quirky illustrations from David Williams’ best-selling children’s book “Rat Burger”.

In the box:

  • 53 Jumbo Playing Cards
  • 1 Instructions Card

Flush Out the Rat is a matching pair memory card game (it goes by many other names; Old Maid, Scabby Queen etc.). The object of the game is to get rid of all your cards and not be the player left holding the Ratburger card.

The game comes with 54 large cards (53 are used to play the game, 1 is the rules and instructions). The cards are larger than standard sized playing cards. The cards are good quality cards and feature child-friendly quirky illustrations from David Williams’ best-selling children’s book “Ratburger”, including Zoe, Evil Burt and the Rat himself!

Flush Out the Rat

Flush Out the Rat is a simple card game to play with the aim to flush out the rat, but not be the one holding it. The cards are dealt out between all the players, it doesn’t matter if a player ends up with one more than others (depends on how many are playing). The deck only contains one “Ratburger” card. Player’s must sort through their cards and pair up any matching cards that they have, disposing of them in the centre of the table, face up so that everybody can see them. When all the players have sorted through their hand and removed all the matching card sets, play starts with the youngest player.

To play, player’s hold their cards fanned out in front of them towards the other players. The backs of the cards must face the others. The youngest player starts, with the player to their left taking a card from their hand. If that player makes a matching pair, they discard them on to the pile on the table. Play then continues with the player on their left talking a card from their hand and so on. Play continues around the table and the player to get rid of all their cards first is the winner. But the fun doesn’t stop there – play continues until there is only one player left, the one who is left holding the dreaded Ratburger card! If you are left holding it, the other players can then shout. “Ratburger!”

Overall, Flush Out the Rat is a fantastic quick and fun game. It is so simple to play and encourages turn taking. I love playing it. It is fast to play, and the rules are simple to understand. The Ratburger theme and wonderful illustrations from the book will appeal and delight children and even adults.

The deck is oversized, a good size for children to hold (and to really show out the beautiful colourful illustrations). And as it is just a deck of cards it means that the game can be played anywhere, making it a superb travel game as well.

With only Ratburger card in the deck, there is always going to a loser, but it is such a fun, enjoyable and light-hearted game to play. You won’t be disappointed and no real rats are used or end up in your burger!
