Dumpster Diver

I’m feeling a little bit peckish, what about you? But I have no food in the house! On no, what do I do? It’s simple, it’s time to be a Dumpster Diver! I know that the raccoon who hides out in the dumpster always has some tasty morsels tucked away. I just need to try and collect some without getting caught!

No, I am not rushing out to the bins to look for food but playing the family-friendly game Dumpster Diver where the aim of the game is to try and retrieve as many pieces of food as you can from the dumpster before the raccoon pops open the lid and grabs you with his paw.

Dumpster Diver

Dumpster Diver is a fun tabletop game from Goliath Games that children and families will love. It doesn’t even require batteries. It is a game suitable for 2-4 players, aged 4+ and to win you just need to be the player who steals the most food from the dumpster before the raccoon catches somebody.

Dumper Diver is a simple tabletop game played within a plastic dumpster. To set it up to play, open the dumpster lid and put in the 16 pieces of brightly coloured food pieces:

  • 6 Fresh Food: 2x Milk Carton, 2x Honey Pot, 2x Broccoli
  • 10 Half-Eaten Food: 2x Apple, 2x Fish Bone, 2x Hot Dog, 2x Banana, 2x Chocolate Bar

With all the food inside the dumpster, push the raccoon paw flush against the raccoon’s face and close the lid and get ready to play. Push the rubbish bag (garbage bag) on to the side of the dumpster (it will go on either side of the dumpster and depends on if players are left are right handed).

To play, the last person who threw something away gets to start.

Players roll the die, which is labelled 1, 2, 3 or Take, and complete the action. If a number is rolled, that is how many pieces of food that player must try to take from the dumpster. If Take is rolled, that player can take a piece of food from another player. When a player rolls a number, they must take the Player Claw and push it through the door in the dumpster and take food – 1, 2 or 3 pieces and only one piece at a time (any extras are pushed back in). Then the next player rolls and so on. The game ends when either all the food has been collected by the players or the raccoon is not happy that someone is stealing his food and pops out of the dumpster and slaps his paw down (hopefully on the stealing players hand). If the raccoon pops, the player that gets caught must put back the piece they had taken on that turn as well as two pieces from their stash.

With the game ended, players need to count up their food totals. Half-eaten food is worth 1 point, fresh food is worth 2 points. The player with the highest total is the winner.

Overall, this is a really simple but quick and fun game to play. It is a completely self-powered game, so no batteries are required, and all the components store safely inside the dumpster to prevent lost pieces.

It is a fun action game of chance and luck as you never know when the dumpster lid will pop, and the raccoon jumps out and slaps your hands (it is a very light tap if it does hit your hand so no one is going to get hurt – although the look of shock when the raccoon pops out is priceless).

The food pieces are all brightly coloured and a good size and the dumpster, raccoon and player claw are all good quality plastic pieces. It even comes with a fun 24-piece jigsaw puzzle for the younger players to put together.

Children and families of any age will love playing Dumpster Diver, trying to beat the raccoon and the other players. Can you take his snacks before the raccoon attacks!
