Little Red Riding Hood

Sitting down and playing games is excellent fun, but ones that educate as well are even better! Combining a board game with a logic puzzle to get children’s brains working whilst still being fun must be be an ideal toy. SmartGames do just that. They have created a range of logic games, some based on well-known fairy tales, that are fun to play whilst putting thinking and logic skills to the test. We tried out the single player Little Red Riding Hood Deluxe logic game.

SmartGames Little Red Riding Hood Deluxe is a one player logic puzzle game, ideally aimed at the 4-7 year old skill set. Although a children’s game, it can also be fun for adults to do some of the puzzles just to keep minds whirring away. It is a logic game that comes with 48 puzzle challenges, ranging from Starter to Master, and each challenge only has one solution to get Little Red Riding Hood to Grandma’s house.

In the box:

  • Playing Board
  • 5x Puzzle Pieces with Roads

  • 3x Trees

Little Red Riding Hood

The idea of the game is to get Little Red Riding Hood safely to her grandma’s house in the woods. Whilst that doesn’t sound too difficult, players must also get there by avoiding the Big Bad Wolf along the way. The game is played by laying out pieces on the board as per the challenge book and trying to build a path to the house by avoiding the wolf.

There are two ways you can play this game, with or without the Wolf (if you are playing with the wolf you need to create 2 paths to get both into the house). There are 24 challenges if playing with just Little Red Riding Hood and a further 24 challenges if you are playing with the wolf as well (a total of 48 challenges with 4 different difficulty levels: Starter, Junior, Expert and Master).

To play, players pick a challenge card from the challenge book, which is sectioned into different degrees of difficulty. Once you have selected a challenge, lay out the trees, Grandma’s house, and figure(s) as per the picture in the challenge book. Now you must take your puzzle pieces and start to create a safe path from Little Red Riding Hood to the door of Grandma’s house (if playing with the wolf as well, you will also need to build a path for the wolf to get there). This sounds a very easy game to play, even for young children. The first few puzzles are, just to ease children into the mechanics of the game. But as they work their way through the challenge book, the difficulty level increases to become more challenging. Some get quite complicated and require good logical thinking, observation skills and forward thinking skills. If you do get stuck and really can’t see the way forward, the solutions are on the back of the challenge page you are trying to solve. Depending on what puzzle you are doing, you may or may not have to use all the pieces to solve the puzzle.

Overall, SmartGames Little Red Riding Hood is a fun and challenging logic puzzle for children. It is a puzzle that lives up to the SmartGames title, a very smart game indeed – challenging, educational and fun!

There are 48 challenges to complete and each only has 1 solution. Players must put their brains to work to figure out how to place the pieces and build the correct paths needed to safely see Little Red Riding Hood home.

Whilst it is a game, it is excellent at helping to develop cognitive skills – spatial insight, planning, problem solving, concentration and visual perception. Some of the harder puzzles are quite challenging and would even be good for adults to occupy their minds and keep the brain working.

SmartGames Little Red Riding Hood Deluxe is a very impressive fun educational logic puzzle game that will challenge children’s minds whilst keeping them entertained (and learning). It also comes with a family-friendly picture book with a modern twist on the original story that makes good reading.

Highly recommended educational fun.
