Exploding Minions

You may already be aware of the very popular explosive card game Exploding Kittens, if you haven’t, you should, it’s excellent fun. I would also imagine that most people have some knowledge of the small, yellow pill-shaped creatures known as Minions (they can usually be found accompanying an evil master), well now the two join forces in a card game for people who are into bananas, flaming unicorns, and sometimes fire hydrants in Exploding Minions. A fun card game where players draw cards until somebody explodes (not literally, that wouldn’t make a fun game as nobody would play). A blast of bananas and booms!

Are you ready for a game that combines the mischievous charm of those yellow, denim-clad Minions with the heart-pounding thrill of a potential explosion? Look no further than the Exploding Minions card game, where the stakes are high, and the bananas are… well, explosive.

In the box:

  • 72 Cards
  • Instructions

First up, I have to talk about the game box. The cover is fantastic, it’s like a mini firworks display! As expected, it features a bright yellow minion with its trademark round goggles and blue overalls. But this minion is holding a stick of dynamite and a banana! And the fun doesn’t stop there, the image on the front of the box is a rather cool lenticular image, when you move the box the dynamite and banana show as exploded and the minion has an image of an explosion in both its eyes. It’s the kind of box that screams, “I’m fun and possibly dangerous!” But fear not, the only danger here is the risk of dying from laughter. The only downside with the box is the size, it contains just one deck of cards in a box that could comfortably contain 6 decks – while it doesn’t affect game play, its just a waste (and gives the illusion of getting a lot more for your money).

Inside the box is one deck of exquisitely illustrated amusing game cards.

Exploding Minions

Exploding Minions is a Minions edition of the fun and popular Exploding Kittens card game, so if you have played that before, Exploding Minions has the same game play. It is a card game for people who are into bananas and explosions and flaming unicorns and sometimes fire hydrants.

The game is suitable for 2-5 players and promises a quick 15 minutes of fun. Suitable for players age 7 upwards, it’s perfect for those who have mastered the art of reading and those who still find fart jokes hilarious (which, let’s be honest, is most of us).

Now, if you don’t like reading instructions (yes you, the one that won’t stop and ask for directions when lost), then Exploding Kittens kindly provide a much more interesting instructional video. You can watch it here.

Depending on how many people that are going to be playing determines how many cards are used, so you will need to READ THE INSTRUCTIONS, or watch that fun video.

The basic premise of the game is that players draw cards until somebody draws an Exploding Minion, at which point they explode and are out of the game. But you can defuse the explosive situations with things like bananas, fire hydrants, or flattery, OR use powerful action cards to move or avoid the Exploding Minion. Betray your friends. Try not to explode. The last player left alive wins.

Overall, Exploding Minions is a fantastic fast-paced and fun-packed card game that is suitable for family play. It has easy to understand rules and the game play is simple, devious and explosive. Avoid exploding and you win, otherwise you will be sobbing into your Despicable Me pillowcase (whilst your sibling cries with laughter).

The cards are excellent; bright and colourful and superbly illustrated. Reading the cards and looking at the images is half the fun of the game. The cards are a kaleidoscope of colours, each adorned with a Minion in various states of panic or delight, which is pretty much how you’ll look while playing.

Exploding Minions is minion mayhem that will blow your mind (not literally of course). It is a riot of colour, silliness, fun and gleeful strategy. So gather your friends, family and minions and prepare for a blast. Game nights have never been so dangerous. And maybe grab a banana for your in-game snack!
