Got It

Would you have been any good at Bletchley Park – once the top-secret home of the World War Two Codebreakers? How good is your Morse Code, apart from the obligatory SOS or … — …? How are your codebreaking skills? Maybe you’re the next Alan Turing? If puzzles and deciphering codes are appealing, put your brain to the test in the codebreaking game Got It! from The Happy Puzzle Company.

Got It! is a general knowledge quiz game, where fun meets brain workout, for 2-6 players, aged 8 and above. It has a playing time of around 30 minutes. But Got It! isn’t just a simple question and answer game, whilst you might know the answer to the question being asked, which is actually right there on the card, the twist is that they are all in code and you must be the first player to crack the code and decipher it!

Got It! features 960 question and answer challenges covering a wide range of family-friendly subjects, using 8 different codes (the world’s first game to do so); commonly used codes such as Braille, Semaphore, British Sign Language (BSL), Morse Code, Hieroglyphics as well as code fonts Aristotelica Icons, Swine and Roses and The Calling.

In the box:

  • 6x Code-breaking ‘crib sheets’ containing the details of all eight codes
  • 60x Double sided challenge cards
  • Eight-sided die
  • Card stand
  • Instructions

You probably know that a strawberry is red, or that Paris is the capital of France. You probably also know the names of common musical instruments, famous Kings and Queens of England, well-known sporting events or even different breeds of dogs. Of course you do… The question is, would you know all of these things if they appeared in code? When the question is so easy, Got It! turns into a game of speed, as you race your opponents to decode the answer and enjoy that ‘Got It!’ moment, as everything falls into place!

The 60 challenge cards are shuffled and placed in the centre of the table. That’s all that is required to set up the game and you are ready to start deciphering the code!

Got It

Playing the game is easy, deciphering the answer is that bit more of a challenge. A challenge card is taken from the top of the deck and placed in the card stand so that all players see the same side of it (the cards are double-sided with a different challenge on each side, so make sure that each player can see the same side). The eight-sided die is rolled, with the random number rolled (1 to 8) becoming the number of the challenge on the card that needs to be broken, deciphered and solved as quickly as possible. Players must race to break the code and get the answer (using their code-breaking crib sheet). The first player to crack the code and give the correct answer wins the round – the first player to win 3 rounds is the winner.

Got It

At the top of the challenge card will be a question, Underneath the question will be an answer in the 8 different codes. When the die is rolled, the number is the answer that players must decipher. If players think they know the answer, they can’t just shout it out in the hope that they get lucky. When answering, each player only gets one chance. If an incorrect answer is given, that player is out of that round and play continues with the remaining players. When a player gives their answer, it can be checked on the card by the player that gave the answer (the answers can be found at the base of the challenge card on the reverse side).

Overall, I think that Got It! is an exciting and fun general knowledge quiz game with an exciting difference – I like that just knowing the answer isn’t enough and that you must decipher the code to solve it. It makes it very different and more exciting than standard question and answer trivia games.

The rules are easy to understand, and it is very simple to set up. Game play is simple, just use your crib sheet to decode the answer as fast as you can! With eight different codes to use to help you decipher the codes and find the correct answer, it is a challenging game and lots of fun. The questions aren’t too taxing, it is all about the speed of cracking the code.

With 960 different challenges over the 60 double-sided challenge cards it has excellent playability.

I think that Got It! is an exciting and competitive game, fun for family game nights. Superb for puzzlers, gamers that love general knowledge quizzes and problem solving fanatics. The brain teasing codebreaking puzzles are quite varied and players even get to learn more about Braille, Morse Code and other kinds of non-spoken language and might even add an extra layer to your communication skills.
