Party games have been the lifeblood of social gatherings since the days of Ancient Greece, where games like Copper Mosquito (Blind Man’s Bluff) weren’t just for kids in togas but a legitimate way to break the ice without accidentally smashing a vase. Fast forward a few millennia, and we’ve swapped the marble floors for kitchen tables and the togas for… well, let’s just say more casual attire. But the essence remains the same: party games are the glue that binds a get-together, turning awkward hellos into belly laughs and creating memories that last long after the last slice of pizza has been fought over. But now it’s strictly business in the card game The Godfather, Last Family Standing.
The Godfather, Last Family Standing is a party card game that promises to make you an offer you can’t refuse – a night of fun, strategy, and the chance to see if you can outwit your friends and family in a battle for power and respect. A game for 3-6 players, age 14+ with a playing time in the region of 30 minutes.

The Godfather, Last Family Standing is multiplayer card game based on the 1972 movie The Godfather starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino. It is the ultimate adult game for game night. Remember, it’s not personal – it’s strictly business. A captivating mix of strategy and chance that transports players into the gritty Mafia underworld of 1940s New York. Do you have what it takes to take your family to the top of the pile and have power over the other families? A game of strategy where players must bump off other players, form alliances, duck for cover or run away. The last family standing wins.
Before the war between the families can be waged, gather your families (players) and provide each person with a playing board, 5 health tokens (oranges – if you have seen The Godfather films you will probably know the significance of oranges), a rose and a matching set of 4 Family Member Cards (2x The Family Man, The Consigliere and The Don). Players place their health tokens on the health spaces on their boards (image side up), starting the game with full health. Shuffle the deck of 56 Last Family Standing cards (Hit Cards) and deal each player 5 cards. Place the remaining cards within easy reach of all players as well as the 12 Extra Shot Tokens.
Each player then places one of their Family Man cards face-up on their board on the Family Members space (there are two spaces). The family war to be Top Don can now begin.
Players take it in turns playing cards from their hand (or drawing new ones). Each card gives a different action to perform with action cards, ally cards, and event cards. The aim is to take out the family members of the other players by depleting their health, ultimately destroying your rivals and becoming The Godfather! The game involves a mix of strategy, negotiation, and luck, as players must decide when to attack, when to defend, and when to form temporary alliances. It’s a game that’s easy to pick up but challenging to master, much like trying to understand why every character in the movie whispers.
Overall, I found The Godfather, Last Family Standing to be a brilliant game of strategy. On the first play it can be a bit complex while leaning how everything works but once you get used to the game mechanics it is an joy to play, players even get into Mafia mode trying out their best (or worst) stereotypical gangster accents. It has a good blend of strategy, negotiation and thematic elements that makes it a unique and engaging experience.
It is fairly quick to play with a playing time of around 30 minutes, although that does vary depending on how many people are playing. As the game is based around a hand of cards and drawing randomly from the deck, no two games are ever the same so it has excellent replay value.
The cards, boards and playing tokens are cardboard, while the roses are plastic and they all feel good quality.
This is a fun game to play, especially if you like strategy games and are a fan of The Godfather films. Play The Godfather theme tune in the background to enhance the experience.
It will take a game or two to learn and enjoy the game mechanics properly but once you get into the game it becomes a very immersive experience, keeping you on the edge of your seat and bringing out your competitive streak to become The Godfather of the last family standing.
If you like strategy games and The Godfather / Mafia movies then this is definitely “The party game you can’t refuse!” A game that will keep pulling you back in.
