Hyper Dash

With the change in weather we can now swap the stuffy indoor air for the crisp breath of freedom – escaping the confines of our walls into the relative freedom of the great outdoors for some outdoor fun. The birds are calling, whispering to us to come outside, the sun is shining, beckoning us past the doorframe and on to the grass with its warmth. It’s a fantastic time to get out in the garden, or to the local park, and have a relaxing … well, maybe not relaxing, maniac race of electronic tag with Hyper Dash – the electronic reaction race game!

Hyper Dash, from Golden Bear Toys, is an electronic game of tag. It is a game that can be played indoors and outdoors (we think it is better played outside as there is more room to run around). Supplied with a handheld electronic tagger and five targets, it is suitable for 1-10 players, age 6+.

In the box:

  • Hyper Dash Electronic Tagger (requires 3x AA batteries, not supplied)
  • 5x Target Discs (different colours)
  • Instructions

Getting outside and playing games is great fun. Whether you’re dodging a frisbee like it’s out to get you, or finding out just how bad you are at badminton, outdoor games remind us that fitness and fun can go hand-in-hand. And who doesn’t remember playing a game of good old fashioned tag (or It). Well as with most things, technology has upgraded the game of tag and has turned it into game that will have you sprinting around the garden like a gazelle souped up on fizzy drinks and sugary sweets. Hyper Dash is a game that is part sport, part adrenaline-filled excitement and plenty of high-energy fun.

Hyper Dash is a game of tag, but unlike the game that we all know players don’t chase around after their friends trying to tag one. The game of Hyper Tag is an electronic version of tag where coloured discs need to tagged – imagine an electrifying race where memory, quick reactions and sharp reflexes rule supreme.

Get ready for some high-energy fun with Hyper Dash. You can play solo or with up to 10 players. Essentially it is a game of tag against the clock and is lots of competitive fun. It’s not just a race; it’s an epic battle of reaction times, spatial awareness, concentration and even memory. Every second counts in this game fast, frenetic and fun game.

Setting up and playing the game is simple. Firstly, install 3x AA batteries in the Hyper Dash Electronic Tagger (these are not supplied and you will also need a small Phillips/Crosshead screwdriver to remove/replace the battery cover). Place the five coloured discs (numbered 1 to 5) around the playing area – we found it best played outside but it can be played inside.

The game comes with three playing modes:

  • Dash: Race to hit all the targets as fast as you can – can be played solo or against other players (up to 10 players). The fastest time wins. There are 10 levels to play through. Starting with colours, the tagger will tell you a colour and you will have to run off and tag it, when successful it will announce another colour. As you progress through the levels it then starts to use the numbers printed on the discs rather than colour and then increases further by using a mix of colours and numbers and double instructions (tag number 1 and green for example).
  • Fast Dash 30, 60, 90: Complete to tag as many discs as your can in 30, 60 or 90 seconds by following the voice commands. Can be played solo or with up to 10 players.
  • Team Dash: For teams of two to four players (maximum of four teams). Listen for the instructions and tag the discs until the next player or team is called and then switch. There are 10 levels to play through and like Dash mode they get increasingly harder the further you progress.

Once you have set out you discs, select the mode you want to play by pressing the STAR button on the tagger, then select the number of player by pressing the PEOPLE button – the tagger will speak and let you know how many players you have selected. Listen to the instructions and place the tagger on any coloured disc to start. Now race to the relevant disc and place the tagger on top of the disc to register the tag and listen for the next disc – dash, tap and win. At the end you told your time to complete the course and who the winner is.

Hyper Dash

Overall, I think that Hyper Dash is an excellent game, not just as a game but for getting exercise, honing listening and concentration skills, following and comprehending instructions and trying to remember which coloured disc is where (even more so when it switches from colours to numbers and especially when it uses a mixture of both).

The set up of the game is very minimal and it is so simple to play with its engaging gameplay. Fast reactions and following instructions are key to the game, you don’t necessarily need to be the fastest runner.

The electronic tagger is very sleek and is easy to operate. It uses voice commands to announce colours, numbers, times and winners and has two volume levels (low and high) which is easily changed by pressing the two buttons together. The low volume I found too low, especially when racing from one disc to another – the high volume was perfect (not too loud and easy to understand).

With the different modes it is perfect for challenging yourself and trying to get the best time, perfect for family-friendly fun in a competitive challenge and would be great for birthday parties with up to 10 players or 4 teams being able to compete against each other.

When playing, when a colour is announced the light at the top of the tagger will also light up in that colour. To register a tag you simply place the tagger on top of the discs (if wrong it will repeat the colour you need).

This is an excellent high-energy game for keeping players engaged and moving – perfect for getting off the screens and engaging in physical activity while still keeping that tech fix. It is extremely easy to set up and is very portable, it can be played anywhere – indoors or outdoors.

Hyper Dash is a fantastic reaction game and is very addictive, whether it is trying to beat your own time or the thrill of beating your friends and family. A wonderful way to get outside and have some outdoor fun. The perfect excuse to get outside and play.

Hyper Dash is prefect for mixing fun, laughter and exercise while enjoying some outdoor play. Get on those shorts and t-shirts, lace up those running shoes and dash around the garden for some hyper fun.
